Friedman Benda Presents Titus Kaphar's The Vesper Project

Friedman Benda presents Titus Kaphar's The Vesper Project. The exhibition, which opens February 28 at the Chelsea gallery, is a sculptural maze. Kaphar seamlessly weaves his own work throughout (and on) the walls of a 19th century American home. Consisting of three reconstructed rooms, paintings, scultpures, and furniture including a neglected wardrobe, a vintage typwriter, and gilt frames strewn throughout, The Vesper Project is a confusing installation that contributes to a disrupted mental state. Kaphar documents the history of the Vesper family wtih old photographs and cultural identity triggers that lead the viewer into a fractured experience—as fractured as the 1870s house.

Friedman Benda is located at 515 West 26th Street. The Vesper Project will be on view from February 28–April 6, 2013.
