Art of Another Kind at the Guggenheim
Emilio Vedova, Image of Time (Barrier), 1951.
Art of Another Kind: International Abstraction and the Guggenheim, 1949-1960 will be on view through September 12, 2012. The 1950s is known for its bold artistic styles, and the Guggenheim's second driector, James Johnson Sweeney, championed these emerging avant-garde artists of the time. Many of the works in the current presentation were also on display at the 1959 inaugural exhibition of the Frank Lloyd Wright designed museum.
This exhibition is organized by Tracey Bashkoff, Curator, Collections and Exhibitions, and Megan Fontanella, Assistant Curator, Collections and Provenance. The Guggenheim is located at 1071 Fifth Avenue.
